Edinburgh International Festival announces first show of 2018 line up
For those of you who don’t know, the Edinburgh International Festival was where it all began. The Fringe started when performers started showing up in Edinburgh during the International Festival, and performed on ‘the fringe’ of the festival. The EIF is dedicated to bringing the best, most current, creative and original performers in the world to Edinburgh’s stages.
So needless to say, the Edinburgh International Festival is a pretty big deal. And being a part of it, even more so.
That’s why we’re super excited to know the first of their line up for 2018!
The National Theatre of Scotland have just announced as part of their 2018 season launch, a new “radical restaging” of Midsummer will be part of the 2018 International Festival.
David Greig and Gordon McIntyre’s musical comedy was first performed at the Traverse in 2008, before their hugely successful national and international tour. The play, appropriately set in Edinburgh, follows two characters Bob and Helena on “a great lost weekend of bridge-burning, car chases, wedding bust-ups, bondage miscalculations, midnight trysts and self-loathing hangovers.”
Midsummer will be staged at The Hub, the home of the Edinburgh International Festival, throughout August. We can’t wait.
