Great campsite reads to bring along to Edinburgh…

At Edinburgh Festival Camping we love a good read and since many of our campers will be Edinburgh Book Festival goers (festival runs from 15th-31st August) we have dug out the TOP 3 books we would recommend chucking in with your camping kit this summer – or even better downloading onto the Kindle to save space (we have charging points available)!

“The Guyrope Gourmet” – Campsite cuisine need not be dull anymore! There will always be a place for the fry-up in a can BUT this fantastic guide written by travel, food enthusiast and writer Josh Sutton is all about “…getting hold of some fresh local ingredients and having a bash at something new” and we wouldn’t be without it!

On a less practical note after a day at the festival it’s likely you will be ready to put your feet up with a full belly, glass of wine (or real ale) and a good novel. For adults we recommend “Us” by David Nicholls. The reason we love this book so much is that most of us can relate to it in some way or another as award winning author Nicholls explores the intricacies behind the main character Douglas’ relationship with his wife and son. And although yes it’s definitely a tear jerker, like it’s predecessor One Day Nicholls uses humour brilliantly and it’s really enjoyable read that you can pick up and put down again between days at the festival – if you can tear yourself away!

For the kids we recommend a classic that is always set to make them chuckle – Curious George Goes Camping, by H.A. and Margaret Rey. As always George tries to be helpful but the primate ends up causing havoc on the campsite along with a forest creature he meets on his adventures!..Perfect stuff for little campers snuggled up in the sleeping bag with a cup of hot chocolate.

If you are planning to visit the World famous Book Festival this August you can find out more information here and don’t forget you can camp from 7th – 31st August at the Edinburgh Festival Campsite And book lovers feel free to bring along your favourite reads for the book exchange!
