Edinburgh International Book Festival takes place annually in Charlotte Square right in the Heart of Edinburgh City. The Book Festival is internationally recognised as the largest festival of it’s kind in the word. There are now over 700 events and 80 authors over the 3 week period where the Gardens of Charlotte Square turn into a mini literature village.
Expect to find a wonderful mix of events going on with writing workshops, eduational events, panel discussions, author talks as well as great performances by international poets, musicians and thinkers. J. K. Rowling, David Walliams, Ruth Rendell, Matt Haig and Germaine Greer have featured in recent years. There is always a great line up of international guests to be enjoyed for great inspiration and entertainment.
Children at the Book Festival are well catered for with their very own wonderful programme of children’s events where they can get involved in workshops, storytelling sessions, author talks, meet illustrators, go to book signings, panel discussions and more. Authors such as Jaqueline Wilson and Charlie Higson are regularly found here.
The Book festival offers British Sign Language Interpreters with a programme of signed events for both Adults and Children.
The Book Festival Hub at Charlotte Square is also a great place to meet and relax, sit and think or be entertained, have a coffee, take in the surroundings and atmosphere relaxing in the gardens, or maybe a wee dram or beer from The Guardian Spiegeltent.
The Book Festival Hub is free to everyone! All are welcome to can come along and enjoy the setting and atmosphere. The programme of events will be announced in June with tickets going on sale then.
