When to book Edinburgh Festival and Fringe accommodation

It’s always difficult to tell whether it’s best to book early or wait for an offer, but with holidays, it’s a tricky one – some service providers offer last minute offers, some don’t. So we wanted to be honest about us, Edinburgh Festival Camping, so you know when it’s best to book, how to get the best offers and most importantly, what our availability currently looks like now*.

One thing that all visitors to Scotland should be aware of is that while Scotland is vast and largely, very remote, a lot of tourists come here every year… and that means what little accommodation there is gets booked up very quickly! Whether you’re going to Edinburgh or out to the Highlands, you must book early… particularly if you’re heading towards major tourist destinations in the Highlands and the islands where they receive far more tourists than they can accommodate.

The Edinburgh Festivals and Fringe receives as many as 4.5 million people every year, from all over the world. The demand on accommodation is very high, and that’s why we set up Edinburgh Festival Camping five years ago. Prices for AirBnBs and hotels in Edinburgh go through the roof during the Festivals and we just don’t think this is fair. We believe that there should be an affordable option so that anyone can enjoy these festivals, and bring their kids, and participate in them too if they want.

If you’re not sure what to expect of our campsite, just think of us as your average family campsite with lots of green spaces and friendly atmosphere, with the addition of our Giant Tipis, which are at the heart of the campsite. The Tipis are a social space for all of our guests to enjoy, with sofas and dining tables, a fire pit, cafe and bar and of course our official Fringe Venue 403. Think good showers, real coffee, badminton nets and footballs, loads of space, happy campers, 24 hour staff, a licensed bar and hot chocolate and that’s us. We look forward to running this campsite every year.

In short, yes. We’ve been really lucky these last three years that we have received so many visitors to our campsite, many of them returning year after year.

Booking online directly on our website is the best option. Our phones rings off the hook throughout August, and while we do our best to answer your calls, we do miss some. Our advice is, when you know that you are coming, book! There is no point in delaying, and it could result in disappointment. Need to talk to us? Call us now on 01315641405.

*Correct as of 7th May 2019….

Electric Meadow Pitches are the most popular and we expect to be sold out of most dates by July. We are sold out on the 9th August, but we have a few pitches left for the 8th and 10th. If you can survive on your leisure battery for a couple of nights, then book onto an Electric Pitch then move to a non-electric Meadow Pitch for the dates that we’re full. Give us a call to check availability and so we can advise what is available.

Bell Tents are also selling really fast – particularly for the first and last weekends. Mid-week availability is good, but for any weekend we recommend booking as soon as possible.

We currently have good availability for Pre-Pitched Tents, however we do normally sell out on weekends and weekends typically get booked up by the end of July.

We have plenty of Meadow Pitches (non-electric) for Motorhomes, Campervans, Caravans and for those who want to park on their pitch and BYO Tent pitches. We do recommend booking in advance.

Our best offers are always available early on for our ‘Early Bird’ bookers. To guarantee you get the best price for next year, book when sales open in the autumn – this is when we release our best price along with free cancellation and date changes. Early Bird sales for 2019 have closed.

We’re only a few months away so hopefully you won’t need to cancel. However, we recommend that you take out travel insurance when you book any holiday. Many people think that travel insurance only covers you if you are going overseas… this is not true! If you book a holiday in the UK, you can get travel insurance to cover you in case you can’t make it.
